Dhaka: Suspected militant Saiful Islam, who was killed during ‘Operation August Bite’ at a residential hotel near Square Hospital in capital’s Panthapath area on Tuesday morning, came to Dhaka in the name of seeking a job.

Dhaka Metropolitan (DMP) Additional Commissioner and Chief of Counter Terrorism Unit Monirul Islam told the NTV Online.

Monirul said Saiful was a 3rd year student of Social Science Department in Barisal Brojomohun College (BM College).

He came to Dhaka on August 7 in the name of seeking a job from his hometown Khulna. Saiful came here after getting an assignment from his alleged militant top leader to conduct an militant attack on the occasion of National Mourning Day, Monirul added.

Earlier, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner (Operation) Mizanur Rahman told NTV Online it has been believed that a suspected militant is staying at Hotel Olio International at Panthapath. Moreover, the militant also stored huge amount of explosive substances in the building.

Local people said sound of explosions was heard from the hotel building at about 9:45am. A part of the hotel also collapsed as the suspected militant hurled grenade and opened fire. The suspected militant died during the explosion at room number 301 in the hotel.

However, the reason behind his death could not be known yet. Panic spread among the people of neighbouring area as loud sound of explosions and gunshots were heard.

A man was also injured during the drive at the hotel. The injured, whose identities could not be known, was taken to Sqaure Hospital.

Earlier, in the morning, law enforces cordoned off a building of Hotel Olio International near Square Hospital in Dhaka suspecting presence of militants inside the building.

Members of law enforcing units including the tactical unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police SWAT (Special Weapons And Tactics) have taken position near the building.

It has been known that materials for conducting violence acts are stored at the house.
