BNP forms relief committee to stand by flood victims

Dhaka: Amid the sweeping severe flood in the country's north and north eastern regions, BNP on Thursday formed a central relief committee to stand by victims.

Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been made the convener of the committee while vice chairman Abdullah Al Noman its chief coordinator, said a press release.

The committee was formed at an emergency meeting of the party held at its Nayapaltan central office with Fakhrul in the chair.

BNP relief affairs secretary Haji Aminur Rashid Yasin has been made the member secretary of the committee.

Party chairperson's advisory council members Abul Khair Bhuiyan, Ataur Rahman Dali, its joint general secretary Habib-Un-Nabi Khan Sohel, organising secretaries Fazlul Haque Milon, Mahbubur Rahman Shamim, Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu, Nazrul Islam Monju, Asadul Habib Dulu, Shakhawat Hossain Jibon, Syed Imarn Saleh Prince, Bilkis Jahan Shirin, Shama Obaid, Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee, Swechchasebak affairs secretary Mir Sharafat Ali Safu, information affairs secretary Azizul Bari Helal, Marginal manpower development affairs secretary MA Malek, assistant relief affairs secretary Newaj Halima Arly and all the central presidents and general secretaries of the party's associate bodies have been made members of the committee.

The meeting denounced the government's 'utter failure' to ease the sufferings of the flood victims by providing them with necessary relief materials.

It called upon the authorities concerned to take proper steps to distribute adequate relief materials among the flood-hit people.
