Police found no evidence of cricketer Sunny-Nasrin marriage

Dhaka: Police submitted final probe report before a Dhaka court in the woman repression case filed against cricketer Arafat Sunny and his mother under by a woman, Nasrin, who claimed to be Sunny’s wife.

Crime, Information and Prosecution department deputy commissioner Anisur Rahman on Friday morning told NTV Online the police presented the probe report stating that the case was lodged over false allegation.

Anisur said the report was submitted to Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court under the general registration division of Woman and Children Repression Prevention Act on Thursday night.

The Mohammadpur Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Mohammad Yahiya submitted the report stating the allegation brought against Sunny and his mother are not proved, said Sunny’s counsel M Jewel Ahmed.

The court’s general registration division officer (GRO) Harolal Mollick said the report will be sent to Woman and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal. Further movements of the case will be held there.

The final investigation report said the plaintiff filed the case by presenting false information, so the report asked to acquit the accused. Moreover, the investigators did not find any evidence of marriage between Arafat Sunny and the plaintiff.

Police did not also found any evidence or witness for the allegation brought against Nargis Sultana, mother of Sunny that she along with other people beat the plaintiff.

Earlier, on 1 February, Nasrin Sultana, claimed to be the wife of Arafat Sunny, filed case against Sunny and his mother with the Woman and Child Repression Prevention tribunal. Earlier, the left-handed batsman was in jail for a month in an Information and Communication Technology Act (ICT) case filed by Nasrin. Moreover, on 23 January, she also filed a dowry case against the player and his mother.

On 5 January, Nasrin Sultana filed a case against Sunny claiming she was married to him.

The spinner has played 16 one-day internationals, taking 24 wickets, and 10 Twenty20 internationals in which he picked up 12 wickets.

He was suspended from international matches during the 2016 ICC World Twenty20 for an illegal bowling action.
