Verdict on PM Sheikh Hasina murder plot today
Dhaka: A Dhaka court to deliver the verdict in a case filed over the killing attempt on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina 17 years ago.
On 10 August, Dhaka’s Second Speedy Trial Tribunal judge Mamtaj Begum fixed 20 August for delivering the verdict.
On 20 July of 2000, police found two 76-kilogramme bombs in Sheikh Lutfur Rahman Government Ideal College field at Kotalipara in Gopalganj where Sheikh Hasina, on her first term as prime minister, was meant to address an election campaign rally on 22 July.
Of the 25 accused in the two cases filed over an attempted murder and explosives, Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami chief Mufti Hannan has already been executed in another case.
On 8 April 2001, Crime Investigation Department (CID) assistant superintendent of police Munshi Atiqur Rahman filed charge sheet against 10 people including Mufti Abdul Hannan.
The other accused of the case are Mohammad Ehibullah, Munshi Ibrahim, Mohammad Mahmud Azhar, Mohammad Rashed Driver, Mohammand Shah Newaz, Mohammad Lokman, Sheikh Mohammad Enamul, and Mohammad Mizanur Rahman.
