Man gets death for killing schoolgirl Nitu at Madaripur

Madaripur: A court in Madaripur awarded a young man with death sentence for killing schoolgirl Nitu Mandal, who refused his love proposal, at Kalkini upazila of the district in 2016.

Madaripur district and session judge’s court Judge Sharifuddin Ahmed on at about 1:30pm on Monday declared the verdict.

Court’s public prosecutor (PP) Mohammad Emran Latif told NTV Online said the convict is Milon Mandal, in his twenties, a resident of the village of Isarkandi under Nobogram union.

Around 14-year-old Nitu, student of Nobogram High School was stabed by Milon Mandal on her way to school in Madaripur on 18 September, 2016. Later, she was taken to Kalkini Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Nitu’s father, Nirmol Mandal, filed a case with Dasar police. Around 18 people gave deposition during the trial of the case.

However, the convict, Milon, was absent at the court, when the verdict was announced.
