Dhaka: In the wake of Chief Justice SK Sinha’s criticism by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, BNP convened an emergency press conference this (Tuesday) evening.

The press conference will be held at the BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan office at 7:30 pm, said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

He said BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will speak at the press conference giving the party’s reaction to the Prime Minister’s remarks on the Chief Justice.

BNP senior joint secretary general Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal criticised the PM for asking the Chief Justice to step down.

‘We strongly condemn and protest the PM’s remarks. Her remarks are unconstitutional, indecent and devoid of courtesy,’ speaking at a discussion at DRU arranged by Bangladesh Youth Forum Alal also asked the Prime Minister to withdraw her comment over the CJ.

The BNP leader also came down hard on Awami League joint general secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif for asking the Chief Justice to take to the streets resigning from his post. ‘Making such a call to the country’s Chief Justice is very unfortunate for the nation.’

Coming down heavily on the Chief Justice for comparing Bangladesh with Pakistan, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday said she is not scared at all with such a threat and this is not tolerable either.

‘This is very much disgraceful that Bangladesh has been compared with Pakistan, this is not tolerable at all,’ she while addressing a rally after placing wreaths at a makeshift memorial of the martyrs of the gruesome grenade attack on August 21, 2004 on Bangabandhu Avenue at Krishibid Institution, Bangladesh (KIB).

The Prime Minister said this cannot be accepted that a court of Pakistan removed their Prime Minister through a verdict and that will be used as a threat in Bangladesh.
