Dhaka: Legendary actor Razzak, who passed away at a city hospital on Monday, laid to eternal rest at Banani Graveyard on Wednesday morning.

He was buried around 10:20 am.

Earlier, his two namaz-e-janazas were held at Azad Mosque in Gulshan and Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) respectively on Tuesday.

‘Razzak’s son Bappi, who lives in Canada, reached Dhaka on Wednesday dawn.,’ said Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association president Misha Sawdagar on Tuesday.

Earlier on Tuesday, the celebrated film star’s body was taken at Central Shaheed Minar at around 12:15pm for last civic tributes.

Hundreds of people queued in lines with flowers to pay tributes to their beloved film star Nayak Raj who died of cardiac arrest yesterday at the age of 75.

People of all strata of life including ministers, political leaders, cultural activities, artistes, professionals, teachers, students, friends, fans and admirers rallied in queue to pay their last homage to the celebrated film star by placing floral wreaths on the coffin under the arrangement of the Sammilita Sangskritik Jote.

Many fans of Razzak came from different long distance to have last glimpse of the film star. Two long separate queues for male and female carrying flowers in hands reached Dhaka Medical College Hospital Outdoor gate from the Central Shaheed Minar.

One minute silence was observed and a mourning diary was opened on the occasion.

On behalf of Awami League, party’s Advisory Council Member Tofail Ahmed and General Secretary Obaidul Quader were first to offer wreaths on the coffin while others followed him with floral wreaths and had their last glimpses of Razzak.

‘Nayak Raj Razzak played an outstanding role in arena of Bangla movie. His death is an irreparable loss to our film industry. The vacuum will never be filled up,’ Quader told newsmen after offering wreath.

He compared Razzak with Uttam Kumar, another Bangla movie icon of Kolkata, who is dubbed as ‘Mahanayak’.

Later, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu and Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor, Film Director Gazi Mazharul Anwar, cultural personality Syed Hasan Imam, writer Anwara Syed Haque, actress Rozina and Joya Ahsan, actors Shakib Khan, Javed, Ujjal, among others, paid tributes to Razzak.

Gazi Mazharul Anwar said: ‘We are lucky as we got the chance to work with such a talented artiste. I have many memories with him in his long journey of five decades to the arena of film’.

Fifty five-year old workshop worker Fazar Ali came to Dhaka from Shariatpur this morning to pay last tribute to his beloved film hero who won the hearts of thousands of Bangla movie fans in his long career of five decades.

‘I am to Dhaka today to have last glimpse of Razzak. I watched most of his films which touched my hearts truly,’ he told BSS at the Central Shaheed Minar.

Government employee Shamsul Haque, who came to Shaheed Minar from city’s Keraniganj, said he became a big fan of Razzak after watching his ‘Rangbaj’ film.

‘I watched most of his movies,’ he added.

At the Shaheed Minar, different organisations and institutions including Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigosthi, Sammilita Sangskritik Jote, Bangladesh Television, Cultural Affairs Ministry and Information Ministry paid rich tributes to Razzak by placing wreaths at his coffin.

Later, Razzak’s body was taken to Gulshan Azad Mosque for second namaj-e-janaza.

Earlier in the morning, his first namaj-e-janaza was held at the film star’s long time workplace Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) at 11:30am.

A large number of film actors, actress, cultural personalities, different organisations paid tributes to Razzak there and also joined the janaza.

Actress Babita, who made appearance opposite of Razzak in many movies, said she cannot believe after hearing the news suddenly.

‘I cannot believe that Nayak Raj is no more. I appeared in many movies opposite of him,’ she said.

Actor Alamgir said Razzak’s death is like death of his father.
