Dhaka: The High Court on Wednesday directed the government to stop the use of hydraulic horns in the capital within 48 hours aiming to mitigate sound pollution.

The HC bench of Justice Kazi Rezaul Haque and Justice Mohammad Ullah passed the order in response to a petition filed by a Supreme Court lawyer.

The court also asked the government to seize all the hydraulic horns available in the market across the country within seven days.

It also issued a rule upon the authorities concerned to explain in four weeks as to why use of hydraulic horns in vehicles should not be declared illegal, said Supreme Court lawyer advocate Monjil Morshed.

The court also asked the authorities concerned to seize vehicles if hydraulic horns are used after August 27.

Advocate Monjil Morshed submitted the petition to the HC on Tuesday (August 22).

According to writ petition, any machine which causes sound pollution can not be used as per Motors Vehicles Ordinance. But violating the act, different vehicles are using hydraulic horns.
