Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday distributed cheques of financial assistance among injured persons and family members of those died in the atrocities unleashed by BNP and Jamaat-Shibir at Indurkani of Pirojpur district in 2014 and 2015.

Sheikh Hasina handed over cheques to 24 persons at the Prime Minister’s office, said PM’s press secretary Ihsanul Karim.

The Prime Minister recalled the atrocities of the BNP-Jamaat on innocent people during the period from 2013 to 2015 in the name of movement centering the last national election.

Later, the Prime Minister received cheques of donations from Bangladesh Association of Banks (BAB) for her relief and welfare fund.

The banks have donated Tk 85 crore to the fund, the press secretary said.

The Prime Minister extended her sincere thanks to the bankers for coming forward with financial support during any disaster.

‘Their money is used for the welfare of people,’ she said.

Sheikh Hasina said her government is taking steps for the cultivation of new crops soon after the recession of floodwater as flashflood and deluge caused by heavy rain and upstream water resulted in huge damage to crops.

‘The government has also taken measures to check the outbreak of any disease following flood,’ she said adding that the Prime Minister Office, civil and military administration and party leaders and workers are working wholeheartedly together to mitigate the sufferings of the flood-hit people.

She said the government will redistribute textbooks among the students in the flood-affected areas as their books are damaged in the floodwater. ‘Repair work on the roads and highways will start after the recession of floodwater,’ she said.

Hasina said her government is making constant efforts to stand beside the people of every profession including poets, artistes and litterateurs with financial support during their needs.

AL President’s private sector Adviser Salman F Rahman and BAB President Nazrul Islam Mazumder were present.
