Juba Dal leader killed in ‘gunfight’ 2 days after arrest

Noakhali: A Juba Dal leader, who was arrested two days earlier, has been killed in a reported gunfight with at Begumganj in Noakhali.
The deceased is Mohammad Alam, in his forties.
The Begumganj police Officer-in-charge (OC) Sajidur Rahman Sajed told NTV Online the gunfight took place at Alaiyapur union of the upazila in the early hours of Thursday.
Police claimed Mohammad Alam, a resident of the Patwari house in the village of Baluchara under the union, was the joint convenor of Alaiyapur union BNP and president of ward Juba Dal.
The OC said police arrested Alam in his residence in the early hours of Tuesday. Based on primary interrogation, police took him in a drive to recover arms in Alaiyapur. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, miscreants opened fire to police; police also fired back which triggered a gunfight. Alam received a bullet and died on the spot. Later, police recovered arms from the spot.
The police official said Alam was wanted in 10 cases including murder, rape, abduction and extortion filed with the police station.
