Dhaka: Dhaka Education Board Secretary Shahedul Khabir Chowdhury sustained injuries in an accidental shooting by an on-duty policeman in front of ‘The Westin Dhaka’ hotel in the city on Thursday night.

Gulshan Police Station Officer-in-charge AB Siddique told news agency UNB that the service gun of constable Imran Hossain of the Public Order Management (POM) division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police went off accidentally at about 10:00pm.

Splinters of the bullet hit Shahedul when he came out from the hotel after a programme, he said, adding that the secretary suffered injuries to different parts of the body, including chest, right hand and belly.

Later, he was admitted to United Hospital, the OC added.

Meanwhile, the accused constable was suspended on charge of negligence of duty soon after the incident.
