Dhaka: Two people were killed and a person was injured as a fire broke out following the blast of a sewerage line at Golapbagh in Dhaka on Monday night.

The deceased are Sajal, about 40 years old, a scrap-metal shop worker, and Lutfur Matabbar.

The Fire Service and Civil Defence central control room officials said the sewerage line went off near Matri Sadan Hospital around 7:30pm that led to a fire.

Sajal was burned to death while Lutfur died as a manhole slab fell on him under the impact of the explosion, said the duty officer at Jatrabari Police Station.

On information, six firefighting units rushed in and took the blaze under control around 8:55pm.

Earlier, the fire service said the fire originated following the explosion of an electric transformer.
