Dhaka: Wastes of sacrificial animals will be removed in the capital within 24 hours from 2pm on the Eid day, said Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon.

Besides, Eid holidays of the officials and employees of Waste Management department of both the city corporations have already been cancelled to ensure quick removal of wastes after slaughtering of animals, he said.

Sayeed Khokon came up with the information at a coordination meeting of the DSCC and the DNCC held at Dhaka South Nagar Bhaban on Tuesday.

Around 4.75 lakh cattle are expected to be sacrificed on the day of Eid-ul-Azha, one of the biggest religious festivals of Muslims and two days after the Eid day, which is scheduled to be celebrated in the country on Saturday next.

Around 25,000 metric tons of additional wastes will be created from the sacrificial animals in the capital.

He said a total of 625 slaughtering spots have been fixed under the DSCC while the figure is 549 under the DNCC

He called upon the city dwellers to sacrifice their cattle in designated sacrificing spots so that wastes can be cleaned easily.

The Mayor said the DSCC will distribute 2.5 lakh jute sacks and the DNCC 4.55 lakh poly bags to keep the wastes.

DNCC Chief Executive Officer Mezbahul Islam and DSCC CEO Khan Mohammad Belal and other senior officials concerned of the two city corporations were present at the meeting.
