NHRC concerned over incidents of disappearance
Dhaka: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Tuesday expressed deep concern over the recent incidents of abduction and disappearance across Bangladesh.
According to the NHRC, 52 people were subjected to abductions and disappearances from January to June this year.
A meeting of the commission on Tuesday, headed by its Chairman Kazi Reazul Hoque, discussed various allegations of abductions and disappearances, and expressed concern over the incidents, said a press release.
In the last six days, plainclothes men introducing themselves as detectives abducted two businessmen and a bank official in the capital, it said.
The NHRC chief said, "It's the duty of the state to ensure security of its citizens. If law enforcers get involved in such incidents, it'll ruin the state's image."
