Environmental org Shaakhee elects its first central committee thru voting
Natore: Environment protection and social welfare oriented volunteering organization Shaakhee on Tuesday elected its very first central executive committee through direct voting.
SM Jakaria Bulbul, the convener of the previous adhoc committee, was elected president to lead the organization for the next two years, whereas Hasibul Islam Hirok was elected the general secretary of Shaakhee.
Jakaria, an assistant secretary at the central executive committee of Bangladesh Student League, the pro-Awami League student body, is currently doing his PhD research. He is an English Literature graduate from Dhaka University. Hasibul is a private organization employee. Both of them are from Natore Sadar.
The nine-member committee was elected through a secret balloting. The 23-member of the previous convening committee voted to choose the members from a total of 15 candidates in six categories: president, general secretary, vice president, joint secretary, organizing secretary, and executive members.
The six others elected Shaakhee members are: Sammir Khan, senior vice president; Hasan Ullah Hira, vice president; Azizul Hasan Tushar, senior joint secretary; Shohan Raj, joint secretary; SM Shahariar Shammu, organizing secretary; and Anowara Islam Shiuli and Imran Badhon were elected the executive members. All of them are graduate students at different educational institution.
The full-fledged committee will be announced later after scrutinizing the membership applications that Shaakhee has received so far from different parts of Natore and the country as well.
‘Shaakhee’, a Bengali word which means ‘tree’, is a non-profit and non-government organization which started its journey on 16 June this year with the slogan: ‘with environment and people’. At its inception it announced a mission of planting 100,000 trees in Natore, which is known to be the hottest place in Bangladesh.
