Dhaka: Benazir Ahmed, director general of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), said that the maximum possible security measures have been taken keeping in mind all types of security risks and apprehensions during the celebrations of Eid-ul-Azha .

He made the remarks while briefing reporters after inspecting security measures at the National Eidgah, the country's main Eid congregation, on Wednesday.

‘There is no fear for people's safety during Eid-ul-Azha. But keeping in mind all types of security risks and apprehensions, we have taken maximum possible security measures,’ Benazir Ahmed said.

Speaking to reporters at the venue, the RAB DG also asked the devotees not to carry anything except prayer mats. Even, no intact water bottle will be allowed there.

In reply to a question, Benazir said as per intelligence information we got so far there is no threat of terror attacks.

The RAB boss also said militants lost their strength gravely in the last one year due to continuous operations by the law enforcement agencies. So, there is nothing to fear for people's safety at the National Eidgah.

He hoped that the Eid congregation will be held in a festive mood and home-bound people will reach their respective destinations safely.

Five battalions of RAB will remain in Dhaka while nine others outside Dhaka to ensure utmost security of the countrymen, he added.

Senior officials of the elite force were present during the inspection and at the press briefing.
