Dhaka: Slain blogger Ahmed Rajib Haider’s father Nazim Uddin rejected the verdict given by a tribunal here on Thursday in a case filed over his son’s killing in 2013.

‘I reject the verdict. I can’t accept the verdict. It is a farcical verdict,’ he told reporters after the pronouncement of the judgment on Thursday.

He further said, ‘What I can expect from a society where there is nothing called justice! Jamaat-Shibir men committed the murder,’ he said.

Had police been able to arrest one of the prime accused, Redwanul Azad Rana, the mystery would have been unveiled, said Dr Nazim Uddin adding he will appeal to the higher court against the verdict.

Earlier, the judge of Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal 3, Syed Ahmed, convicted seven people and sentenced two of them to death and one to life term imprisonment in the case for killing blogger Ahmed Rajib Haider.

The death convicts are Faisal bin Nayeem Dwip and Redwanul Azad Rana while the lifer is Maksudul Hasan Anik.

Besides, three more people—Mohammad Ehsan Reza Rumman, Mohammad Nayeem Shikder Erat and Nasir Imtiaz—got 10 years’ imprisonment.

Ansarullah Bangla Team chief Mufti Mohammad Jasim Uddin Rahamani was awarded five years’ jail term while Sadman Yeasir Mahmud got three years.

Among the convicts, Redwanul Azad Rana was tried in absentia.

On February 15, 2013, Ahmed Rajib Haidar, an activist of Ganajagarn Mancha, was stabbed to death near his house at Mirpur Palash Nagar in the capital.
