Dhaka: People from all walks of life are paying homage to Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra artist Abdul Jabbar at Shaheed Minar on Thursday.

Despite bad weather, people have gathered on the central Shaheed Minar premises to pay homage to the legendary singer.

The body of Abdul Jabbar was taken to Shaheed Minar at 11:15 am.

His first funeral prayer was held on Bangladesh Betar premises on Thursday morning.

The second funeral prayer will be held at the Dhaka University Central Mosque, before his burial at the Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals Graveyard in the afternoon.

Abdul Jabbar passed away at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Wednesday following prolonged illness.

He was 79.

He left behind his wife, two sons, a daughter, a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.

Principal Secretary of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury payed homage on behalf of Sheikh Hasina while Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader also payed homage.
