Nation will be freed from curse with war crimes trial
Dhaka: Greeting all on the occasion of the English New Year, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina reasserted that the trial of war criminals will go on and the nation be freed from the curse.
The prime minister in a message on Thursday said the trials of four national leaders’ murder case, 21 August grenade attack case, and 10-truck arms haul case are also running in full speed.
She also called on the country people to build a Bangladesh free from hunger, poverty, and a secular, prosperous, and peaceful country.
Besides, Sheikh Hasina mentioned 2015 as a glorious year for Bangladesh as it revived the nation with the spirit of the Liberation War, over all progress, and ensured a consistency of constitutional and democratic practice.
Prime Minister also noted her personal achievements — winning the title of the ‘Champion of the Earth’ in 2015, which is the United Nations’ highest environmental accolade, bagging IT Award for the development of IT sector — and her government’s accomplishment of starting Padma Bridge construction with its own fund of TK30,000 crore.
Mentioning Bangladesh’s entry in 32nd Atomic Club after waiting for five decades, Sheikh Hasina said, her government started the establishment of Ruppur Atomic power plant, the largest ever undertaken in the country, with Russian investment of $12.65 billion in a project.
Bangladesh has reached a new height in several socio-economic indexes, she added. Bangladesh grasped a better position, in some cases better than India and Pakistan, in Global Peace Index, Global Hunger Index, Global Food Security Index, Gender Inequality Index, Maternal and Child mortality rate, Global social progress index, and Global Mass media index.
Despite recession, Bangladesh was positive in the index of collective economy and achieved 6.51 per cent economic growth in the last year, said Sheikh Hasina.
She also said the country’s economy crossed $27 billion foreign currency reserve and investment, both domestic and foreign, was increased in 2015.
‘Bangladesh realised growth in export sector in spite of several difficulties,’ said Sheikh Hasina.
‘World Bank recognised Bangladesh as a lower middle income country while per capita income reached into $1,314,’ reads the prime minister’s message.
The number of power plants increased to 100 and the production aptitude spanned to 14,000 megawatt.
Prime Minister also mentioned the former enclave people’s relief from 68 years of miserable lives.
