Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said democracy will win in the year 2016 by defeating fascism and dictatorship.

Mirza Fakhrul made the remark after paying homage by placing a floral wreath to former President Ziaur Rahman’s grave at Chandrima Uddyan in Dhaka on Friday, marking 37th founding anniversary of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal.

While talking to journalists the BNP leader said: ‘A new horizon for democracy will be revealed by defeating fascism and dictatorship in the New Year. People will achieve their victory in the year.’

BNP acting secretary general also greeted people on the occasion of English New Year.

Earlier, in the morning, Mirza Fakhrul along with the party’s senior leaders joined a special prayer with the leaders and activists of Chhatra League. Later, they took oath in fisted hands.
