Dhaka: Turkey’s First Lady Emine Erdogan arrived in Dhaka early on Thursday to meet Rohingya Muslims who have fled persecution in Myanmar’s Rakhine State.

A special aircraft carrying her and her entourage, including Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, landed at Shahjalal International Airport around 3:00am.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam received the Turkish first lady at the airport.

The visit follows the latest bloodshed in Myanmar’s Rakhine State that resulted in the fresh influx of Rohingyas into Bangladesh.

Emine Erdogan will fly to Cox’s Bazar on Thursday to visit Rohingya camp accompanied by State Minister Mohammad Shahriar Alam.

Meanwhile, Turkish Foreign Ministry in a statement said its Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu will visit Bangladesh on September 7-8 to offer Turkey’s support and observe the on-site conditions of approximately 125,000 Rohingya refugees who have been forced to flee to Bangladesh.

The Turkish Foreign Minister is likely to meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali during the visit.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's son Bilal Erdogan, Family and Social Policies Minister Fatma Betul Sayan Kaya, AKP Deputy Chair Ravza Kavak Kan and senior Turkish aid officials accompany the Turkish First Lady during the visit.

The Turkish Foreign Minister is also expected to meet representatives of the international aid organisations in Dhaka apart from visiting the refugee camps and delivering humanitarian aid.
