Dhaka: The members of Rapid Action Battalion said a huge amount of powerful unexploded bombs and Improvised Explosive Device (IED) were found at the suspected militant den of Darus Salam in Mirpur.

Two people, the house owner Habibul Bahar Azad, and nightguard Sirajul Islam, have been showed arrested for their link with the incident.

The members of RAB, fire service and civil defence, and Bomb Disposal Unit entered into the building at about 8:30am on Thursday and conducted search operation.

RAB Media Wing Director Mufti Mahmud during a press briefing at about 1:00pm told the journalists, the members of law enforcers cordoned off the building overnight and resumed their operation on Thursday morning.

He said the law enforcers found unexploded bombs and IEDs in the building. Abdullah, the suspected militant, was a trader of IPS and UPS, so RAB also found a huge amount of electric device at the hideout. They also discovered some sharp weapon on the spot.

The RAB officials added the search operation will continue for few more time. It may end on Thursday evening or Friday.

About the identities of the deceased, Mufti Mahmud said it is difficult to identify the deceased, as the bodies were scattered. Their identities can be confirmed after DNA test and autopsy.

Earlier on Wednesday, the elite force recovered the skulls of seven people, including two women and two children, from the militant hideout.

A fire broke out in the hideout after the militants commenced a daring counterattack of bomb explosions and gunfire against the law enforcers on Tuesday night.

The militants carried out three massive explosions inside the building around 9:45 pm followed by three more blasts which led to a fire, leaving four RAB men injured with splinters.

Earlier, suspected militant Abdullah, son of late Mir Yusuf Ali of Chuadanga district, agreed to surrender along with his two wives, two children and two associates.

His mentally challenged sister Meherunnesa came out of the house.

Tipped off, a RAB team cordoned off the six-storey building on the south side of Martyred Intellectuals’ Graveyard at 12:00 am on Tuesday.

Earlier, police arrested two suspected militants conducting a drive in Tangail district and got information about Abdullah from the arrestees.
