Drive at Mirpur ‘militant’ den resumes for fourth day

Dhaka: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) resumed their search operation at the suspected militant hideout at Darus Salam in Mirpur in Dhaka on Friday.

Lutful Kabir, additional deputy inspector general of RAB-4, told UNB that a team of RAB-4 has started searching fridges, cartons of the flat on the fourth floor of the building at 8:00aam whether more explosives, firearms were kept hiding there.

Later, they will search other flats of the six-storey building for explosives, firearms, he added.

Earlier on Thursday, the elite force recovered several cartons, containing huge quantity of IEDs, some electronics devices and sharp weapons from inside the building.

RAB also arrested the owner of the 6-storey building Habibullah Bahar Azad and security guard Serajul Islam on Wednesday night in connection with the incident.

Earlier, the elite force recovered the skulls of seven people, including two women and two children, from the militant hideout on Wednesday.

Tipped off, a RAB team cordoned off the six-storey building on the south side of Martyred Intellectuals’ Graveyard on Tuesday.

Later, a fire broke out in the hideout after the militants commenced a daring counterattack of bomb explosions and gunfire against the law enforcers.
