Dhaka: Different political and social organisations on Saturday staged demonstrations in front of the Jatiya Press Club protesting Rohingya persecution by the Myanmar security forces.

Bangladesh Civil Rights Society held a protest rally around 11 am demanding immediate intervention of the United Nations to stop repression on Rohingyas in Myanmar’s Rakhine state.

They asked the UN to put pressure on the Myanmar authorities to stop mass killing and repression on Rohingyas and secure their human rights.

During the rally the leaders of the organization urged the government to provide shelter to the Rohingyas.

Besides, Sri Krishna Seba Sangha, a religious and social organization, demanded withdrawal of Nobel Peace Prize of Aung San Suu Kyi, State Counsellor of Myanmar, during an hour-long human-chain from 10:30 am this morning.

They also condemned the role of India over Rohingya Issue.

Organisation’s convener Nakul Chandra Saha said India’s stance over Rohingya issue has damaged the image of Hindu community worldwide.

Meanwhile, left political organizations- Communist Party of Bangladesh, Basad, and Democratic Left Alliance will joint stage demonstrations around 4:30 pm in front of the Jatiya Press Club on Sunday on the same issue.

Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh also announced to besiege the Myanmar Embassy in the city on September 19 and hold protest rallies across the country on September 16, protesting security forces’ crackdown on Rohingyas in Myanmar.

At a press conference at Chittagong Press Club the secretary general of the organisation Junaid Babunagari came up with the announcement.

They will also submit memorandums to the secretary generals of the UN and OIC in this regard.
