Govt conspiring against BNP’s 5 Jan programme: Rizvi
Dhaka: Condemning ‘attacks’ on BNP party office by ‘Original BNP’ activists, BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Saturday alleged that the government is conspiring against BNP to foil its 5 January programme.
‘The government is conspiring against BNP over 5 January. There’s no way of removing BNP with a political party formed with street boys and urchins,’ he told reporters at a press conference at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office in Dhaka in the evening.
Referring to ‘Original BNP’, the BNP leader asked the media people, ‘‘Is there any political party ‘Original BNP’?”
He alleged that at least 15-16 leaders and activists of Juba Dal, Chhatra Dal and Swechhasebak Dal were injured in the sudden attack by the so called BNP activists.
Rizvi condemned the attack and demanded exemplary punishment of the attackers after an investigation.
He also noted that a general diary has been filed with Paltan Police Station in this regard.
Several people were injured during a chase and counter-chase between the activists of BNP and ‘Original BNP’ in front of BNP’s Nayapaltan central office in the city in the afternoon.
The incident took place at about 3:45 pm when some supporters of ‘Original BNP’ marched towards the BNP office from Fakirapool crossing and tried to enter the BNP office.
