Zahidullah, a newly arrived Rohingya refugee, hid in the forest of hills for five days in fear of the Myanmar military men and Buddhists. He is a resident of Ruthidaung in Myanmar’s Rakhine state. He headed to Bangladesh on the sixth day of her journey to take refuge there after hiding at the forests. He witnessed a lot of dead bodies while he was coming out of the forest. He saw a lot of bodies lying on the rocky and hilly areas of the forest.

Zahidullah along with his family members arrived at Hariakhali of Cox’s Bazar’s Teknaf after crossing the Naf River. His three-year-old boy Anwar Sadat gazed at the crowded people with surprise. They were tired and hungry. There was mud on their shoes.

Zahid said even the children were not spared from the hands of Myanmar army men and Mog people. They killed children brutally.

He said, ‘Rohingyas hid into the forests, jungles and hills fleeing from their houses to escape ruthless and hard-hearted torture, violence and killing. But dangers were there too. The army men fired bullets into the forests, wilds and hills.

The Rohingya man said, ‘I witnessed a lot of dead bodies of young men and women and children lying here and there in the forests, jungles and hills. I had to come out of the forest walking aside of the dead bodies.

Zahidullah had a grocery and other essential commodities shop at Rakhine’s Ruthidaung market. But now he is totally helpless. The Burma army men torched his house. He fled the violence entering Bangladesh border areas.

Asked who operated the atrocities, he said around 50 military men along with local powerful Buddhist people came together at Rohingya villages, torched houses, fired bullets and killed Rohingya people.

An estimated 370,000 Rohingya Muslim refugees have fled to Bangladesh to escape violence and death in neighbouring Myanmar since 25 August. At least 457,000 hungry and traumatized refugees have sought refuge in Bangladesh border areas, Ukhia and Teknaf, since October 2016. They have joined many thousands of refugees from previous violent episodes in Myanmar.
