In the wake of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s comments on investigation into the alleged money-laundering by its Chairperson Khaleda Zia and her family members, BNP on Thursday warned that the day is not far away when Awami League leaders will also have to give their wealth information.

‘Everything is being prepared to launch investigation also against you. All information is being gathered about your plundering over the last eight years and the wealth you amassed in America, Canada, Singapore and Malaysia,’ said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, reports the UNB.

He issued the warning while speaking at a discussion arranged by Dhaka South City unit BNP at Mahanagar Nattya Mancha, marking the 10th ‘jail release day’ of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.

Fakhrul said the government which looted money from banks, quick rental power plants, share markets and mega projects is now pointing finger at others bringing corruption charges.

Earlier on Wednesday, Sheikh Hasina told Parliament that the government is investigating the alleged money-laundering by the members of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s family, saying appropriate actions will be taken against them accordingly.

‘After investigation, we’ll surely take steps to bring the money back based on the information that where and how it went out from the country,’ she said while replying to a supplementary question of Jatiya Party MP Fakhrul Imam during PM’s question-answer session in parliament.

Reacting to her comments, Fakhrul said, ‘For how more days will you carry out investigations into Zia family’s wealth information? You’ve been conducting it for nearly 10 years, but couldn’t find anything.’

He criticised the government for obstructing BNP’s relief team from going to Ukhia for distributing relief materials among the Rohingyas who took shelter there in the face of persecution by Myanmar security forces in Rakhine State.

Fakhrul alleged that the government is trying to put Parliament against the judiciary as its opponent to destroy democracy and weaken the country.
