Dhaka: Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon on Sunday urged the building owners in Dhaka to give their establishments a facelift to make the city clean and beautiful.

‘We’ve to take care of our city like our homes. But most of the owners rent out their buildings for living, office or business purposes without giving them a new look,’ he said.

The DSCC mayor was addressing a rally at Tikatuli in the city organised as part of the yearlong campaign styled ‘Clean Dhaka 2016’.

Noting that it is not possible for him alone to make the city clean, Sayeed Khokon urged the owners of buildings and offices–both government, semi-government and private–to immediately paint those.

‘If we work together, it’ll be possible to turn the city into a livable one,’ he added.

Mentioning that the transport owners and workers were still parking their vehicles on streets and footpaths although he asked them to refrain from the practice, he once again asked them to abide by the instructions and warned of actions.

‘For the sake of clean and beautiful Dhaka, we’ve to strictly enforce the law,’ he said.

Addressing the programme, Director General of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Benazir Ahmed said it is possible to change the look of the city if all want so.

He also noted that the owners, who do not paint their buildings, have no taste.

‘They’re wild people. They have no right to live in the city. They should live in jungle,’ the RAB chief said.

He also assured the DSCC of providing all-out cooperation in making the city a clean and beautiful one.
