Awami League rally begins
Dhaka: Two rallies organised by ruling Awami League marking the ‘Victory Day for Democracy’ in second anniversary of the 10th national elections began at the south gate of Baitul Mokarram mosque and Russel Square in the capital at about 3:00pm on Tuesday.
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayor Sayeed Khokon while addressing the rally said: ‘Last year the roads were stained with the blood of leaders, activists and general public. The country was shattered with bombings. The war criminals trials proved that in this country nobody can escape the justice. Khaleda Zia will be brought to the justice for killing people.’
The mayor said Khaleda Zia did not withdraw the blockade which she was enforced last year, but people throwaway the blockade.
The rally is organised at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) allotted site for AL, which is from the south gate of Baitul Mokarram mosque to Bangabandhu Avenue in front of the party central office.
The rally began with the speeches of Bangladesh Chhatra League leader Saidur Rahman Shohag and Dhaka Metropolitan Awami League joint secretary general Haji Selim.
The rally is chaired by Awami League general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam.
However, Awami League presidium member Motia Chowdhury, food minister Kamrul Islam, Awami League joint secretary general Mahbub-Ul-Alam Hanif, Engineer Mossharraf Hossain, Abdul Matin Khashru, Mofazzel Hossain Maya, Dhaka Metropolitan AL president MA Aziz, Enamul Haque Shamim, Bodiuzzaman Bhuiyan and other leaders are present in the stage.
Awami League is holding two rallies at Bangabandhu Avenue and Russell Square instead of taking position at the city’s 18 points to avoid public sufferings.
The DMP on Monday gave the conditional permission to Awami League to arrange rallies at separate venues.
