Land official caught red-handed while taking bribe

Dhaka: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday caught a land official of Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj red-handed while taking bribe.

A seven-member ACC team, led by its director Nasim Anwar, arrested land surveyor of Rupganj Upazila Land Office Md Abdul Halim from his office, ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told news agency UNB.

Abdul Halim demanded Tk one lakh from Saiful Islam, a villager, saying that he would give positive report in favor of him in a land case.

Earlier, he also realised Tk 30,000 from the victim. The victim then submitted a written compliant against the land official with the Commission.

In consultation with the ACC officials, the plaintiff went to the land office on Sunday to give Saiful Tk 60,000 in bribe. While receiving the money, the ACC team caught him in the afternoon.

The team also seized Tk 2.1 lakh from his possession. Later in the day, ACC assistant director Md Rezaul Karim filed a case against the land surveyor with Rupganj Police Station in connection with the incident.
