Special security measures taken for Durga Puja: DMP
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzamman Mia on Monday said special security measures have been taken in the city to ensure the smooth celebration of Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community.
The DMP chief came up with the remarks while talking to reporters at Dhakeshwari National Temple in Chakbazar area in the capital while inspecting Puja arrangements there, reports the UNB.
‘We’ve no information of any specific security threat. But our detectives are on alert to avert any subversive acts at Puja mandaps,’ he said.
He said each puja mandap in the city will be brought under CCTV surveillance system. ‘We’ll set up metal detectors at the entrance of all mandaps across the country to ensure foolproof security.’
‘We’ll set up a control room at Dhakeshwari Temple. Archway thermal and scanners will be set up at nine important temples,’ he said.
There will be separate entry and exit points at the Puja mandaps to make the visitors’ movement smooth. The visitors were requested not to carry handbags, vanity bags, packets, metal objects or any sharp items, including knives, at the mandaps, said the police boss.
Some 30,077 puja mandaps will be set up throughout the country, including 231 in Dhaka city, during the festival.
