Chittagong: A tribunal in Chittagong on Tuesday convicted two men and sentenced them to life term imprisonment for abducting and raping a girl in the city in 2010.

The convicts are Mamunur Rashid, 27, son of late Abdullah of Ilsha village in Banshkhali upazila, and Delwar, son of Jamal, a resident of the same village.

The court also fined them Tk1.5 lakh each.

According to the prosecution, Mamun and Delwar forcibly picked up the girl from Boilgaon village at about 6:00pm on 20 October 2010.

Later they brought the girl to a hotel in the city and raped her by turns.

On 22 October, brother of the victim filed a case with Banshkhali Police Station in connection with the incident.

After examining all evidence and five witnesses, out of 15, Judge of Chittagong Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal M Rezaul Karim handed down the verdict.
