UK to provide 30m pound for Rohingyas

Dhaka: Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzel Hossain Chowdhury Maya on Thursday said the United Kingdom (UK) will provide 30 million pound for Rohingya refugees who crossed into Bangladesh fleeing persecution in Myanmar's Rakhine State.
The minister came up with the information after attending a meeting at the secretariat with a nine-member UK delegation.
Mark Fields, State Minister of UK foreign and commonwealth office (FCO) and Alistair Burt, State Minister of the department for international aid and London Acting High Commissioner to Dhaka David Ashley were among the delegation members.
"The UK delegation assured us that they will put pressure on Myanmar to send back the Rohingyas to their homeland," he said.
The government is preparing a land at Bhasanchar near Noalhali to accommodate the Rohingyas if their long term stay is required, he said.
Members of Bangladesh Navy are working to prepare the 12000 acres land but it may take 4 to 5 years to complete the work, he added.
