Singair municipality polls Thursday
Manikganj: The election in Singair municipality in Manikganj, which was stayed by the High Court following the allegation of irregularities, will be held on Thursday.
The Election Commission has taken all necessary preparations for holding the election peacefully.
Six candidates will vie for the mayoral post while 33 for general councillor posts and seven women councillor contenders will fight for reserved seats in the election.
Some 20,014 voters can cast their votes in 10 polling centres under the municipality, said returning officer Munir Hossain.
Members of Rapid Action Battalion and Border Guard Bangladesh will be deployed alongside police and Ansar members, he said.
Earlier on 1 December, the High Court stayed for six months the election process for Singair municipality on the allegation of irregularities in its voter list.
The Election Commission on 6 December postponed the election to the municipality following the HC order.
However, the Supreme Court on 7 December stayed until 21 January the HC order, clearing the way for holding the polls.
