Prime accused in Mymensingh teenager killing held

Bhairab:  Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) held the prime accused in a case filed over killing a 16-year-old boy on theft charge in Srirampur area of Gauripur upazila in Mymensingh on Friday.

RAB-14 Bhairab camp detained Akkas Ali, the prime accused, in Shambhupur area of Bhairab upazila in Kishoreganj.

Bhairab RAB camp Commanding Officer (CO) and deputy director Major Sheikh Nazmul Arefin Porag said details about the arrest will be informed in a press briefing at about 3:00pm.

Earlier, police held two people for brutally beaten a teenage, Sagor, to death. The arrestees are Riaz Uddin, in his thirties, and Fazlur Rahman, in his forties, residents of Srirampur area of Gauripur upazila.

Sagor’s father, Shipon Mia, filed a case with Gauripur police against six people including Akkas Ali and some unidentified people on 26 September. Police is trying to identify the people involved in the killing by observing the video footage and photo of the incident.

On 25 September, Akkas Ali, a resident of the village of Charsrirampur under the Douhakhali union of Gauripur upazila, and his brothers beaten Sagor to death on theft charges. Later, they left his body in a field of long grass.

A photo and video footage showing how the body was beaten to death went viral on social media Facebook on the night.

Later, on 26 September, police recovered the body from the field at about 11:30am.

It has been known that Akkas Ali is an active member of local Awami League. Akkas Ali and his family members fled from the area immediately after the incident.
