Dhaka: Namaz-e-janaza, funeral prayer, of three martyred Bangladeshi peacekeepers was held with state honour at ‘Chopper’s Den’ at Dhaka Cantonment on Sunday morning.

Bangladesh Army chief General Abu Belal Mohammad Shafiul Huq, Navy chief Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed, Acting chief of Air force Air vice Marshal Mashiuzzaman Serniabat attended the janaza, among other defense officers and staff.

Army chief and force commander of United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission (MINUSMA) in Mali Major General Jean-Paul Deconinck placed wreaths at the coffins of the soldiers, said an ISPR press release.

The three martyrs are Sergeant Altaf, EME, (Dinajpur), Lance Corporal Jakirul, Artilary, (Netrokona), and Sepoy Monwar, East Bengal, (Barisal).

Later, the bodies were sent to their respective villages for burial.

Three Bangladeshi peacekeepers embraced martyrdom and another four were injured in an IED (improvised explosive device) blast in Mali on September 24.

Earlier, on September 30, a plane, carrying the deceased, arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the evening. Later, the bodies were taken to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) morgue.
