The primary work of constructing the long-awaited Padma Bridge was started on Sunday morning.

The construction company China Major Bridge Company started the work sacrificing two oxen, two goats and two cockerels to the Padma River. The blood of the sacrificed animals was floated to the river. The company did it following the culture of China to sacrifice animals seeking success in work and prevention of accidents.

A festive environment was created in the area centring the starting of the construction work.

The authority hope that the work will be completed within the scheduled period of four years as the ongoing hartal and blockade have not hindered the progress of the construction work.

Munshiganj deputy commissioner Saiful Hassan Badal said the local administration will take necessary measures to help the construction work  go on properly.
