Dhaka: Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Monday called on investors in the stock market to know, understand and analyse the market before investing money.

The finance minister made the call while inaugurating the World Investor Week 2017 from 2-8 October at the Shilpakala Academy in the city.

Finance Minister Muhith said the stock market crash in 2010-11 occurred as the laws and policies governing the capital markets were very weak at the time.

Following the crash of 2010/11, Muhith said the laws and policies regarding this sector were developed and made transparent in stages till 2013. As a result the people interested in investing in stocks showed renewed interest to invest this sector.

Giving importance on the Financial Literacy the minister urged the investors to invest carefully and study the market before risking investment.

Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) chairman M Khairul Hossain said it is a matter of joy that Bangladesh is leading the World Investor Week programme among 81 countries in the world.

He said the International Organisation of Securities Commission (IOSCO) announced the Week to increase the consciousness among the investors across the world for the first time.

One investor at first has to be trained up about the share market to protect his/her capital and him/herself, said the BSEC chairman.

He urged the government to ensure business-friendly environment to protect the investors.

Coating the example of India and Sri Lanka BSEC chairman urged the government to include the investment related education in the syllabus of school and colleges for better understanding.

Senior Secretary of the Financial Institute Division Eunusur Rahman also spoke while Cricket star Sakib Al Hasan was present at the programme as the goodwill ambassador.
