‘Bangladesh sets example in UN peacekeeping mission’

Dhaka: President M Abdul Hamid on Monday said Bangladeshi peacekeepers under United Nations’ supervision have set an example in establishing peace and harmony in various conflicting areas across the world.
‘Bangladeshi peacekeepers in the United Nations are working relentlessly to restore world peace and stability in different conflicting areas . . . This trend would continue,’ the President said as Major General Jean Paul Deconinck, force commander of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) called on him at Bangabhaban here.
President’s Press Secretary Mohammad Joynal Abedin told reporters after the meeting.
President Hamid said Bangladesh Institute of Peace Support and Training (BIPSOT) has in the meantime established as a ‘centre of Excellence’ to impart training of the peacekeepers both home and abroad.
Referring to the visit of MINUSMA force commander in Bangladesh, the President said his visit would inspire the Bangladeshi peacekeepers in the UN peacekeeping mission in discharging duties.
Maj Genl Deconinck lauded the highest standard of professionalism, devotion and bravery of Bangladeshi peacekeepers in the UN mission since their engagement to UN Peacekeeping Operations.
He hoped that the peacekeepers of Bangladesh would be able to perform their duties and responsibilities with utmost capability in days ahead.
Secretaries concerned to the President were also present.
