Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Sunday alleged that the government is constantly putting 'pressure' on Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha to leave the country in the name of treatment.

"The head of the government herself is the order-giver to take revenge on the Chief Justice. Though a minister, an adviser to the Prime Minister and officials of different agencies met the Chief Justice, the elected representatives of the Supreme Court Bar Association couldn't yet meet him," said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

Speaking at a press conference at the party's Nayapaltan central office, he further said, "Though the Chief Justice is completely fine, physicians are being sent (to his residence) in the name of treatment which is an unashamed drama. Now constant pressure is being created on him to go aboard."

The BNP leader said the government has made an onslaught on the Judiciary by sending Sinha on forced leave. "The government is doing all these things to control the judiciary and restore one-party Baksal rule."

He said people belonging to opposition parties now will have no chance to get justice as the government has spread panic by sending Sinha on forced leave following the 16th amendment verdict. "The opposition leaders and activists and those who hold alternative opinions will now be victims of the government's vindictive attitude."

Rizvi also feared that the government will now try to fulfill its evil desires by establishing its full control on the judiciary and resorting to 'judicial terrorism'.

He called upon the people of all walks of life to get united and put up a strong resistance against the current government's 'misrule and misdeeds'.

Tuning to Rohingya issue, he criticised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her remarks that the international community has stood by Rohingyas due to the Bangladesh government's role. "People know what the government's initial role was over Rohingya issue. It took the side of Rohingyas due to the international community's role."

Returning home empty-handed from the United Nation General Assembly, Rizvi said the Prime Minister is now talking tall over Rohingya issue to mislead people.
