Arrest warrants issued against 23 BNP leaders in 2 cases

A Dhaka court on Monday issued warrants for the arrest of 23 BNP leaders, including Khaleda Zia’s special assistant Shimul Biswas, in two cases.
Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge Mohammad Quamrul Hossain Mollah passed the order after taking the chargesheets in the two cases into cognisance, reports the UNB.
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’a press secretary Maruf Kamal Khan, BNP leader Azizul Bari Helal, Sultan Salauddin Tuku and Saiful Alam Nirob were among the accused.
BNP leaders Amanullah Aman, Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah, Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel and 15 others secured bail in the cases.
According to the case statement, miscreants set a vehicle on fire near Mirpur Fire Service during the BNP-led 20-party alliance’s hartal and blockade programe on March 10, 2015.
Masud Rana, sub-inspector of Mirpur Police Station filed two cases-one under the Explosive Substances Act and another for vandalism and obstructing police from performing their duties.
Zahidul Islam, sub-inspector and also the investigation officer of the cases, submitted chargesheets against 41 BNP leaders.
