Sherpur: Three teenagers were killed as a truck smashed their motorcycle in a head-on collision on Nalitabari-Nakugaon road at Noyabil in Nalitabari upazila on Friday afternoon.

The deceased are Jamal Uddin, 18, son of Abdur Rahim, M Nazrul Islam, 18, son of Alal uddin, and M Rajon Miah, 19, son of Habibur Rahman, all residents of Charali Bazar in the same upazila. Nazrul and Jamal were students of class X while Rajon a student of class IX of Muktijuddha High School.

Nalitabari police sub-inspector Arif Hossain said the three teenagers were returning to Nalitabari Bazar by a motorcycle after attending a marriage ceremony.

When they reached Noyabil, a speeding truck, coming form the opposite direction, rammed their two-wheeler and later plunged into a roadside ditch as the driver of the truck lost his control over the steering at about 3:30pm, leaving motorcycle rider Jamal and Nazrul dead on the spot and Rajon injured.

Rajon was whisked off to Nalitabari Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.

Police seized the truck, bút the driver managed to flee from the scene, the SI added.
