Warrant for Khaleda Zia’s arrest a court decision: Quader

Dhaka: Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Tuesday said issuing a warrant for the arrest of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Khaleda Zia is a court decision and not a political one.
"Law is equal for all. BNP was overwhelmed with joy when a court passed a verdict against the government but when a court passes any verdict against them they stage demonstrations against the court which is a disobedience of its verdict," said Quader.
The minister came up with the remarks while talking to reporters after visiting a BRTA campaign on road safety at Meghna toll plaza on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway.
Besides, he said, the axel load control policy for heavy vehicles on roads and highways will come into effect on November 1.
To minimise the heavy traffic at Meghna toll plaza, the minister said there are eight booths for collecting toll. Of the booths, four will be designated for public transports while the others for goods-laden vehicles, he added.
The authorities concerned have been asked to take necessary steps to prevent traffic congestion at the toll plaza, he said.
