Cox’s Bazar: The local administration has taken some measures so that the Rohingyas, who have taken shelter in Bangladesh amid persecution in Myanmar’s Rakhine State, cannot enter the tourist areas of the district.

Tourist police have been kept on high alert to prevent their spread, while the owners of hotels and motels given necessary directives in this regard, reports the UNB.

Sarwar Kamal, a hotel owner, said, ‘We’re aware so that no Rohingya people could enter our hotels.’

Abul Kashem Shikdar, general secretary of Cox’s Bazar Hotel-Motel Guest House Owners’ Association, said, ‘The hotel owners and the local administration are firm to prevent Rohingyas from entering tourist areas.’

He hoped that the Rohingyas crisis will not affect the tourism industry as the tourism season is set to begin in November. ‘We’ve had a meeting with the local administration in this regard recently,’ Kashem added.

Khandaker Fazle Rabbi, additional superintendent of Cox’s Bazar Tourist Police, said four mobile teams are performing their duties round the clock from Kalatoli to Kabita Chattar while additional tourist police have been deployed at Himchhari and Inani beach points.

Besides, striking teams have been deployed in the tourist area, he said.

Police are patrolling the marine drive and hotel areas as part of their regular activities and monitoring teams performing their duties to prevent the entrance of beggars, hawkers, muggers and unwanted people in the beach areas, said Fazle Rabbi.
