Dhaka: President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday expressed deep shock at the death of AM Nurul Islam Anu, the private secretary (PS) to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and founding president of US chapter Awami League.

In a condolence message, President Hamid expressed deep shock at the death of Anu and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

Recalling his contributions with due respect as an organizer, Abdul Hamid said, ‘Anu was a dedicated politician who was the founder of US chapter of Awami League.’

In a condolence message, the prime minister recalled with profound respect the contributions of Anu to organizing Awami League abroad. ‘We've lost a dedicated politician and an efficient organizer in his death,’ she added.

Sheikh Hasina prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed her deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

Nurul Islam Anu breathed his last at the age of 78 at the United Hospital, where he was on life support in the coronary care unit (CCU) of the hospital.
