Dhaka: All the Rohingya refugee camps have been brought under the electricity coverage, said Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya on Wednesday.

Talking to reporters at Ukhia Degree College field, he said a fresh nine-km line of electricity and streetlamps and floodlights were installed in the camp areas.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has donated Tk 200 crore for the welfare of the Rohingyas which will be used for processing proper sanitation, health services, building shelters and safe water for them, the minister said.

The government will seek another Tk 1,000 crore for Rohingya refugees in the next conference of IOM in Geneva on October 23, he said.

A total of 9,000 latrines and over 4,000 tube-wells have already been built for the refugees along with over lakh sheds in the 3,000-acre area, Maya said.

He said some 679,000 refugees were vaccinated for cholera while 653 pregnant women gave birth to children and 16,833 Rohingya orphans have so far been identified.

Of the refugees, at lest 24 were found to be HIV positive and eight affected with malaria, he added.

Mentioning that the registration of two lakh Rohingyas has so far been completed, the minister said the rest will be completed in the next three months.
