Dhaka: The High Court issued a rule seeking explanation as to why actions would be taken against the authorities of three hospitals over the birth of a child on the road and its subsequent death after the denial of a treatment to a Jessore woman.

The High Court bench of Justice Kazi Rezaul Haque and Justice Mohammad Ullah issued the suo-moto rule on Thursday following a newspaper report.

Besides, the HC asked the director of Sir Salimullah Medical College and Hospital and the Superintendent of Azimpur Maternity Hospital to submit reports within 15 days after investigation.

The Health Secretary, the Inspector General of Police and the Social Welfare Ministry have been made respondents to the rule.

The newspaper report said Pervin, hailing from Jessore district, went to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital around 3am on Tuesday with labour pain.

Later, the DHCH authorities referred her to Sir Salimullah Medical College and Hospital where she was asked to go to Azimpur Maternity Hospital.

After being refused by doctors, she was allegedly dragged out by a staff of the hospital.

Later, she gave birth to a son in front of the hospital around 11am but the newborn child died minutes after its birth.
