Faridpur: A ten-month-old girl child was killed and 17 other people were injured as a bus plunged into a ditch on Dhaka-Khulna highway in Joybangla-Kanfordi area of Nagarkanda upazila early Monday.

The deceased is Jannati Akhter, daughter of Ferdous Miah, hailing from Kakratoli village in Morelganj upazila of Bagerhat district.

Motahar Hossain, sub-inspector of Nagarkanda Police Station, said that the accident took place as the Bagerhat-bound ‘Diganta Paribahan’ bus plunged into the ditch after the driver lost control over its steering, leaving the minor girl dead on the spot and 17 passengers injured.

The passengers alleged that the accident took place as the driver felt drowsy while driving.
