Claim of Myanmar’s Rohingya repatriation start a mockery: BNP
Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Friday alleged that Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan not only resorted to lies but also mocked the nation with his comment that Myanmar started working to repatriate Rohingyas sheltered in Bangladesh.
"Returning home from Myanmar, the Home Minister said a joint working group will be created by November 30 to prepare a work plan to repatriate Rohingyas. But, the media reports said Aung San Suu Kyi told the Home Minister during her meeting with him that Rohingyas don't want to return to Myanmar, and they're the citizens of Bangladesh," said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
Speaking at a press conference at BNP's Nayapaltan central office, he further said, "She (Suu Kyi) also told him that the Rohingyas were repressed by miscreants, not by Myanmar army. After her such remarks, how did the Home Minister claim Myanmar government has started working to take back Rohingyas? It's not only brazen falsehood, but also mockery with the entire nation."
The BNP leader said the Rohingya crisis will not be resolved with the current government's subservient foreign policy.
He also said Bangladesh ministers' bilateral visits to Myanmar bypassing the United Nations and the international organisations will only turn into pleasure trips.
Rizvi criticised Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader for his remark that BNP's good mood over the current political situation will not remain for long, saying BNP is seriously concerned over the current situation, not happy at all.
He said their party is concerned thinking that Awami League will meet a dangerous fall for its repressive acts and misrule.
