Dhaka: Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive arrested the prime accused Beauty Begum and two others in the much-talked-about Aziza Begum killing case from Mirergaon village of Bishwanath upazila of Sylhet district early on Tuesday.

Ali Haidar Azad Ahmed, commanding officer of RAB-9, said on secret information, a team of the elite force led by Major Shawkatul Monayem conducted a drive at the village around 4:00am and arrested Beauty Begum and two others.

The arrestees will be handed over to Shibpur Police Station of Narsingdi district, the CO added. Abdus Sattar, father of victim Aziza Begum, filed the case with Shibpur Police Station, mentioning names of four accused on Saturday.

After that police arrested Tamuja Begum, in her fifties, wife of Firoj Mia, one of the accused in the case.

Earlier on Friday night, Aziza, a class-V student, who was allegedly set on fire by her aunt for ‘stealing a mobile phone set’ at Khainput village in Shibpur upazila, died at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital on Saturday.

Rehena Begum, mother of the victim, alleged that her sister-in-law, wife of Saudi expatriate Abdus Salam, the younger brother of Abdus Sattar, beat up Aziza accusing her of stealing a mobile phone set and threatened her to burn alive around 4:00pm on Friday.

Later, Aziza went missing. Hearing her groaning, neighbours and family members rushed to the spot and rescued her with severe burn injuries from beside her uncle’s house around 9:00pm.
